Wishing all our customers and strategic partners a Happy Christmas
Wednesday 14th December 2011
It is disappointing to see this week’s press coverage indicating the Government may put into the long grass the Dilnot proposals designed to find a solution for long term care with any potential changes put back until 2025. Likewise it remains interesting to see what emerges in the New Year relating to the Government’s White Paper on Social Care with press reports that this will be focused on quality outcomes. This comes as the Equality and Human Rights Commission publish a damning report into the state of the home care market and the impact nationally on some 500,000 older people who receive such a service. It will come not as a surprise to any of us the realities of trying to balance the competing pressures of quality versus price in the delivery of social care. Over the last decade on average 150,000 people each year reach the age of 65 in 2012 this number will spike at 750,000 announcing the arrival of the post war baby boomers at the official retirement age and underlining the explosion in health and social care demand over the next decade as predicted by Sir Derek Wanless in his respected King’s Fund Report back in 2006 pre the credit crunch.
Against this backdrop health and social care providers have opportunity to remain creative and imaginary in how they develop services. Essex Cares is just over two years old and serves over 100,000 Essex Citizens each year in need of services and support relating to hospital discharge and living active lives at home and in their local communities. In the coming year our challenge will remain how we deliver services which are of a high standard but cost effective. In doing so we are looking to develop strategic partnerships with health and voluntary sector agencies to find intelligent solutions to provide well thought out and planned services to our customer base. At our core Essex Cares has a well trained and committed workforce which underlines our core values in ensuring the delivery of good quality care and support to all our customers.
So 2012 will be a challenging year for all of us in the current climate but Essex Cares will be looking to be innovative in finding solutions which best meet the needs of our customers.
I take this opportunity to wish all our website readers a happy Christmas and new year.
Best Wishes
Mark
