Boccia going strong and growing
Boccia is popular with our customers based at Hesten Lodge in Benfleet and Chelmsford Resource Centres. Boccia comes from the Latin word ‘bottia’, meaning ‘ball’. The sport is also known as‘bocce’ believed to have ancient Greek origins. Boccia is played on a long narrow court by individuals, pairs and teams.
Boccia is traditionally played by singles, pairs or teams of three, with six red balls, six blue balls and a white ball called a jack. For this activity you can either play as individuals or in teams. Boccia can be played by anyone.
The aim of the game is to get your coloured balls as close to the white ball called "jack" but it also promotes social and community inclusion, communication, raise disability awareness, raise individual confidence and making freinds.
