Sherry Malik cooks a curry at Roundwood Gardern Centre
Sherry Malik, Chairman on the board of directors at Essex Cares visited Roundwood Garden Centre on Friday 3rd February to teach her own family recipe to the adults with learning disabilities who train in catering there. The menu included home made chick pea curry served with rice and yogurt (raita), all made using fresh ingredients by the service users at the Café.
The recipe featured as a special for the day within the Café and in the long run will feature on their full tantalizing menu.
Roundwood offers work based training within a real business environment in catering and horticulture skills with the focus of training people to gain the skills and confidence needed to find paid employment in the future. Profits made at both the café and garden centre at Roundwood are reinvested back into the business to improve the opportunities available to service users there. Essex Cares believes in giving all adults, including those with a learning disability, a starting point into the world of employment through the means of training co-operatives dotted around the county of Essex.
