Richard’s world is opened up with our help

Richard's Case Study
Richard is one of our customers who attends Barley Twist where he trains in the catering project.

With help from our Community Access Team, Richard has recently started training in the use of public transport to allow him to access more services independently. Richard is really enjoying his training and is very excited about how it will help him in the future.

He can already now travel to Basildon Town Centre and back to Barley Twist safely on his own which has opened up a lot more opportunities for him.

Richard says, “I started travel training so that I could join the Bookrest Cafe when it opened in October where I can use my catering skills and learn more about customer service skills and to help me become more independent.

“I have helped at lots of outside catering events and really like doing it because I can meet lots of different people.

“Since being a member of Barley Twist I have become more confident about meeting people and travelling independently.”
