Services for Deafblind adults in Essex.

A person is regarded as deafblind if their dual sensory loss causes problems with mobility, communication and accessing information. This includes people with a progressive sight and hearing loss, for example age related sensory loss.

Our appropriately trained staff can offer the following support:

  • A full assessment of needs, which will include the need for suitable equipment, one to one human support, rehabilitation and communication.
  • Assessment, demonstration and support with ordering and training in the use of independent living equipment for example loops systems, doorbells and magnification equipment.
  • Advice, information and support to dual sensory impaired people, their carers and families on a broad range of topics with the aim of maximising independence.
  • Support and training in a variety of independent living skills within the home.
  • Referral on to our Rehabilitation and Mobility Officers or Technical Officer.
  • Signposting on to appropriate local and national service providers.
  • Basic advice on benefits, employment, social activities and referring for further support.

To register your deafblind status please go to our Sensory Registration page.
