Services for deaf or hard of hearing adults
Our Sensory team offers a holistic assessment which includes:
- Assessment, demonstration and support with ordering and training in the use of independent living equipment for example Loop systems/Listening Devices, doorbells etc.
- Advice, information and support to hearing impaired people, their carers and families on a broad range of topics with the aim of maximising independence.
- Basic advice on benefits, employment, social activities and referring on for further support.
- Signposting on to other relevant local and national voluntary organisations and service providers.
- Referring on to the Technical Officer within the team where needs have been identified.
Our Technical Officer can provide a more in-depth assessment into how the hearing loss is affecting the individual and their family and recommend suitable equipment to maximise independence. For example:
- Equipment could include amplifiers for telephones, textphones, Loop systems/Listening Devices to make hearing the television easier, flashing light doorbells, pager systems and specially adapted smoke alarms, baby alarms and alarm clocks.
- Demonstration and advise on where to buy equipment and its installation.
- When requested we can provide follow up visits to ensure equipment is working effectively and provide additional support and or training.
- Emotional peer support.
