Services for deaf or hard of hearing adults

Our Sensory team offers a holistic assessment which includes:

Services for Deaf or Hard of Hearing

  • Assessment, demonstration and support with ordering and training in the use of independent living equipment for example Loop systems/Listening Devices, doorbells etc.
  • Advice, information and support to hearing impaired people, their carers and families on a broad range of topics with the aim of maximising independence.
  • Basic advice on benefits, employment, social activities and referring on for further support.
  • Signposting on to other relevant local and national voluntary organisations and service providers.
  • Referring on to the Technical Officer within the team where needs have been identified.

Our Technical Officer can provide a more in-depth assessment into how the hearing loss is affecting the individual and their family and recommend suitable equipment to maximise independence. For example:

  • Equipment could include amplifiers for telephones, textphones, Loop systems/Listening Devices to make hearing the television easier, flashing light doorbells, pager systems and specially adapted smoke alarms, baby alarms and alarm clocks.
  • Demonstration and advise on where to buy equipment and its installation.
  • When requested we can provide follow up visits to ensure equipment is working effectively and provide additional support and or training.
  • Emotional peer support.

Find out how to officially register your hearing loss go to our Sensory Registration page.
